CROSS

Connecting energy-system research, data, and scenarios development

CROSS facilitates energy-system research within SWEET by harmonising scenarios and providing tools for data exchange and model result comparison. It enables comparable analyses across projects and supports transparent, evidence-based discussion of Switzerland’s energy transition.

About CROSS

CooRdination Of Scenarios in SWEET

CROSS is a research activity within the SWEET-CoSi project dedicated to improving coordination and comparability across energy-system modelling and analysis. It harmonizes energy scenarios, promotes data sharing, and integrates technical and societal perspectives to support a sustainable Swiss energy future. CROSS contributes to national energy-system scenarios as well as sectoral and thematic deep-dives, linking modelling work with data harmonisation and dissemination.

Services

CROSSHub

CROSSHub is the digital platform developed within CROSS. It provides a shared infrastructure for storing, validating, documenting, and disseminating energy-system scenario data.

Scenarios

CROSS scenarios are possible future developments of the Swiss Energy system. They are defined along different dimensions that have a direct or indirect effect on energy use or energy production.

Model catalog

The CROSS model catalog documents structure, scope and methodology of Swiss energy-system models. It helps users understand differences between modelling approaches and interpret results correctly.

CROSSDat data repository

CROSSDat provides open and structured access to datasets used in Swiss energy system modelling, including assumptions and outputs. It enables transparency and reusability of analyses.

Data exchange using data contracts

CROSS provides and maintains data contracts for structured exchange of modelling data. This facilitates data exchange, multi-model workflows and reduces inconsistencies between studies.

Data model

The CROSS data model structures and categorises energy-system model variables into a shared, harmonised vocabulary.

Result explorer

The results explorer allows graphical visualisation of different scenario results and assumptions. It facilitates access and comparison of scenario data.

SHEDS: Empirical data on household energy use

SHEDS (Swiss Household Energy Demand Survey) provides survey-based data on energy consumption and behaviour in Swiss households.

Monitoring of energy efficiency and energy policies

The monitor evaluates the development of energy efficiency and energy policies.

Funding

Swiss Energy Research for the Energy Transition SWEET

SWEET – "SWiss Energy research for the Energy Transition" – is a funding programme of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE). SWEET’s purpose is to accelerate innovations that are key to implementing Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050 and achieving the country’s climate goals. The programme was launched in early 2021 and the funding programme runs until 2032.

CROSS is supported by the SWEET Call 1-2022
